At Millwood Primary Special School, our ethos is to open up the world to our children and this includes helping them to access technology and the internet safely.
Our policies within school are available here and explain how we keep children safe on technology within school.
We have KCSIE 2024 compliant filtering and monitoring systems across school devices which ensure we have systems in place to keep our children safe and these are tested on a regular basis by our Safeguarding and Attendance Lead.
We ensure that all children are closely monitored by an adult when accessing devices and that the curriculum they access has a consistent thread of safety included within each and every lesson.
There is also a guide written by one of our very own pupils about keeping safe online is available to review on the Rainbow Room display, which we are very proud of.
The support we offer our children and their families does not stop there. We are always here to support you if safe use of technology and the internet is something you would like us to help you with as a parent or carer at home.
Within school, we have staff who hold various roles that can provide you with this support, alongside your child’s class team:
- Rachel Sheargold – Computing Lead
- Rebecca Savage – Deputy Headteacher and joint Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Shai Lampert – Safeguarding and Attendance Lead and joint Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Catherine Lomax – Child and Family Support Worker and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Pete Evans – IT Technician
If you would like to speak with someone about your child’s use of technology, please get in touch through the office and we will arrange a time to meet and support you.
Some of the things that we can do to help you include:
- Looking at your parental controls and device settings together, across technology such as phones, games consoles, tablets, computers and smart devices, to help you ensure these are robust and meet your family’s needs
- Providing you with resources such as social stories, videos and songs to reinforce messages around safe use of technology
- Signposting to guides and resources to help you to keep up to date on current technology and e-safety trends
- Completing direct work with your child around safe use of technology to help upskill them in this area
- Provide regular updates around safe use of technology on our weekly newsletter, including services you can access for further information and support
